Genuine white iPhone 4 handsets are reportedly selling on the Chinese grey market, according to a recent post by TUAW. As you can see from the above and below images (courtesy of Giz-China), the handsets appear to be real – unlike the “custom white” iPhone 4s which have recently been selling on eBay.

Currently, the handsets are selling for around $899. The boxes themselves are marked with a label which reads: “for internal use only,” as you can see below:

Obviously, it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether these handsets are entirely genuine. But, as you can see from the above images, they certainly appear to be – whether Apple will admit it or not.

As of 28 October 2010, customers who want to transfer their AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) coverage to a new product may do so, according to an internal Apple memo obtained by BGR.

The full memo reads:
As of 28 October 2010, customers who want to transfer their AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) coverage to a new product may do so instead of having to cancel the agreement and purchase a new one. The product originally covered by the agreement must have been purchased within the past 30 days, and the new product must be of the kind that can be covered by that agreement.

This change already applies to AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone as of 23 June 2010. It now applies to all other APP agreements as well:

For the last three years there have been many rumors that the iPhone will eventually be available on Verizon’s network. Apple has Verizon cell-sites in its Cupertino HQ, it has CDMA iPhone prototypes, and most of all, it has the will. Yet, it just hasn’t happened so far. There are some plausible explanations, but we really don’t know why for sure.

However, Verizon is not the only other American wireless carrier that could be carrying the iPhone soon. According to Cult of the Mac’s high-placed source at T-Mobile:

“Talks between Apple and T-Mobile are at an advanced stage, our source says, and it’s 80 percent likely that the iPhone will be coming to T-Mobile in Q3.”

Apple refused to confirm or deny the report, and a T-Mobile rep simply said that “T-Mobile does not comment on rumor or speculation.”

Let’s hope for the best!

The Introduction of Video calling via 3G by Fring has created tons of problems, it has become a controversial issue! The point of contention is fring’s video chat feature, which allowed for Skype video calls over 3G, until Skype pulled the plug. Skype claims that the service is being blocked because fring breached their developer agreement, while fring is accusing Skype of being “afraid of open mobile communication.”

Skype’s Story : Skype legal honcho Robert Miller shot back, saying it was fring’s decision: “Fring made the decision to remove Skype functionality on its own,” Miller wrote on the Skype blog. They did note that “Fring was using Skype software in a way it wasn’t designed to be used,” claiming that this was “in breach of Skype’s API Terms of Use and End User License Agreement.” So it could be that there is a bit more to the story than Skype is acknowledging.

Fring’s Story : fring’s CEO and Co-Founder, Avi Shechter, added his own personal comments to the statement:

“We are disappointed that Skype, who once championed the cause of openness, is now attempting to muzzle competition, even to the detriment of its own users. We apologize to our users for the impact of Skype’s bullying and we will be happy to reconnect with Skype once Skype reverses their decision. We believe in communication openness and know that users will continue to vote with their mobile phones – opting for fring’s innovation, clarity, honesty and openness.”

Consumer Reports has just announced that it “can’t recommend the iPhone 4? due to the infamous antenna issue. The site’s test engineers have recently confirmed the problem after undertaking an extensive test.

Three separately purchased handsets were connected to a base-station emulator – a device which simulates cell towers – in an impervious isolation chamber. There, Consumer Reports’ test engineers were able to confirm that, when touching the iPhone’s lower-left antenna bridge, the handset’s signal significantly decreases.

Here’s what Consumer Reports said on its site:

“It’s official. Consumer Reports’ engineers have just completed testing the iPhone 4, and have confirmed that there is a problem with its reception. When your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone’s lower left side—an easy thing, especially for lefties—the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you’re in an area with a weak signal. Due to this problem, we can’t recommend the iPhone 4.”
