If you were one of the thousands begging chpwn for the ability to not only multitask but also for the ability to get onto your home screen using only touch gestures, then you’ll be very happy to hear that he has done just that. To do this, chpwn has updated his extremely popular Zephyr (touch multitasking) tweak, that allows you to toggle the App Switcher, switch between applications, and now exit an application using only touch gestures without ever having to use your home button. Here is a video demonstration of the new features:

I was at first confused as to how exactly you open the App Switcher since it appeared as though the settings were merged with that of closing an application. The key is that you pause halfway, it will take approximately one second for Zephyr to realize that you want the App Switcher open and that you don’t want to only close the application. Even under the circumstances that you do exit the application, you can always open the App Switcher when you are on the home screen after exiting.

For many of us who purchased Zephyr, this literally means that we don’t ‘have’ to use the home button anymore. The only reason that I could possibly see fit for using the home button is to enter DFU mode. I don’t use the iOS 5 Camera button from the lock screen often, and I don’t normally use the home button as a shortcut for going from the last SpringBoard page to the first. That being said, I think that Zephyr has replaced a hardware function of iOS with a great software counterpart.

You can go into the Zephyr settings and choose between swiping up to both toggle the App Switcher and exiting an application, or you can choose to have only the App Switcher opened. It’s up to you how you ultimately want to use Zephyr, since the settings are extensive and intuitive. If you have never bought Zephyr before, buying version 1.1 will set you back $2.99 and you can download it from the BigBoss repo today!

Hacker Pod2G seems to be doing a great job at updating the Jailbreaking community with his progress of the iOS 5.0/iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Userland Jailbreak. He has neared the completion of his iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak and has tested all the A4 devices. We had informed that he is going to buy an iPhone 4S from the donations to test the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices, and the latest news is that he has bought one.

Now if things go right for him, we expect him to make some progress this weekend on jailbreaking the iPhone 4S. And let’s just hope he does that soon. Because when he does, the iPad 2 untethered jailbreak will arrive shortly after. So iPad 2 users should keep their hopes high. Keep following us to get latest updates on the upcoming untethered jailbreak.

As of right now, based on Pod2g’s tweets and blog posts, the state of iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on various iOS devices is:

iPod touch 3G on iOS 5.0.1

iPhone 4 (GSM) on iOS 5.0.1

iPhone 4 (CDMA) on iOS 5.0.1 (Not Tested Yet)

iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1

MuscleNerd has confirmed that Cydia works fine on jailbroken iPod touch 4G. iPhone Dev Team, today has posted on his Twitter account some screenshots and pictures of iOS 5 beta 1 already jailbroken. He confirmed that the jailbreak will work on iOS 5 final version but tethered jailbreak till now which means you’ll have to connect your iOS device to your computer everytime you reboot it. The exploit used in this jailbreak is Geohot’s Limera1n exploit which was released few months ago. has confirmed yesterday in a tweet that iOS 5′s new feature over-the-air updates will not affect on iOS 5 jailbreak (i.e. jailbreakers will be safe to jailbreak iOS 5).

According to someone “in the know,” Apple’s second generation iPad should be jailbroken by @p0sixninja in “about three weeks.”

The news comes from @veeence, the guy who successfully predicted the release of an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.3.1. According to a Twitter update posted by @veeence yesterday, we should expect support for the iPad 2 to be added in around three weeks:

It’ll likely work on the iPad 2G as well, as soon as it gets jailbroken. Rough ETA is about 3 weeks, according to @p0sixninja.

Gevey SIM for iPhone 4 basically works by forcing the activation of the baseband using the emergency dialer, and it is also said to be vulnerable up to iOS 4.3. It is advised that you wait for a legal iPhone 4 unlock from the iPhone Dev Team which will be possible soon thanks to the 40-bit NCK exploit for iPhone 4.

Greenpois0n has just been updated to RC6. This is the first version of Greenpois0n to be untethered on a second generation Apple TV. Pervious versions of Greenpois0n have been untethered on other iOS devices, but this is the first one that doesn’t require you to have it connected to computer when you want to restart the device. You can safely put your Apple TV to sleep and know it’ll still be jailbroken when you turn it on the next day.

A nice addition to this version of Greenpois0n is that it loads NitoTV onto your Apple TV during the installation process. You no longer have to use the Terminal window to get it loaded onto your Apple TV anymore. Currently, this is about the only addition you can make to an Apple TV, at least until Apple decides to open an App Store for the Apple TV. Steve Jobs has hinted at the possibility of opening an App Store but only if and when the time is right.

Members of Chronic Dev Team has just released Greenpois0n RC5.4 for Mac OS X that allows you to jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 for life. The team has posted an image of jailbroken CDMA iPhone on Verizon network which clearly shows Cydia running on it.

Follow the below guide for step by step instructions to convert your tethered jailbreak to untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1:

STEP 1: Your device must be on iOS 4.2.x, then download GreenPois0n RC5 for Mac OS X from here. [Mirror]

STEP 2: Launch GreenPois0n RC5 then connect your iPhone into your Mac via USB and click onJailbreak as shown below:

STEP 3: Follow the instructions shown on the screen to enter DFU mode:

STEP 4: After the jailbreak is done, you will have a new application on your springboard called Loader. Use it to install Cydia, then it will ask you if you want to remove it. A quick re-spring, and you now have Cydia.
