Guys over RedmondPie has just got some exclusive screenshots of unlocked iPhone 4 on baseband 02.10.04 running T-Mobile network.
Gevey SIM for iPhone 4 basically works by forcing the activation of the baseband using the emergency dialer, and it is also said to be vulnerable up to iOS 4.3. It is advised that you wait for a legal iPhone 4 unlock from the iPhone Dev Team which will be possible soon thanks to the 40-bit NCK exploit for iPhone 4.
The well-known iPhone baseband hacker replied someone asking him (in Arabic) about if the unlock would be ready before 16th January. Hashim has confirmed that the unlock will be available before that date.
Sherif Hashim found an exploitable baseband crash that could bring an unlock for basebands 05.14.02 and 02.10.04 back in November. Very little has been heard since then, and nothing definitive as to the timing on a new ultrasn0w for iOS 4.1 and 4.2. One impatient unlocker sent Hashim a tweet in Arabic, saying he was going away for military service on January 16 and asking if the unlock would be ready by then. Hashim’s response, in English: “sure.” Continue reading
The Dev-Team is warning about a potential issue with ultrasn0w for iOS 4.2.1 on iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband. An increasing number of users with that version of the baseband software are reportedly losing GPS functionality when they unlock their device. The blog post says they are looking for the root cause but haven’t found it yet, and notes that it’s not a problem for all or even most users with that baseband. Still, to be on the safe side, they’re suggesting people should just not expect GPS to work if they want to unlock iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband using ultrasn0w: Continue reading
This version of ultrasn0w is developed ONLY for iPhone 3GS and 3G users who are stuck at 5.14 / 5.15 baseband and need to unlock their phone immediately. I recommend that you wait for some more time until an unlock for the actual 5.14 / 5.15 baseband is available.
WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15. Continue reading

According to notcom, Apple has added new signature checks to 4.2.1, and an image patch will be needed to stop this baseband check. So, why’s this check so bad? You must have the latest baseband when updating your device, so the iPhone 4 baseband preservation method won’t work, because your phone won’t have the latest baseband. Therefore, any iPhone 4 owners with baseband 1.59.00 should stay where they are and not upgrade until further notice. Continue reading
