If you were one of the thousands begging chpwn for the ability to not only multitask but also for the ability to get onto your home screen using only touch gestures, then you’ll be very happy to hear that he has done just that. To do this, chpwn has updated his extremely popular Zephyr (touch multitasking) tweak, that allows you to toggle the App Switcher, switch between applications, and now exit an application using only touch gestures without ever having to use your home button. Here is a video demonstration of the new features:

I was at first confused as to how exactly you open the App Switcher since it appeared as though the settings were merged with that of closing an application. The key is that you pause halfway, it will take approximately one second for Zephyr to realize that you want the App Switcher open and that you don’t want to only close the application. Even under the circumstances that you do exit the application, you can always open the App Switcher when you are on the home screen after exiting.

For many of us who purchased Zephyr, this literally means that we don’t ‘have’ to use the home button anymore. The only reason that I could possibly see fit for using the home button is to enter DFU mode. I don’t use the iOS 5 Camera button from the lock screen often, and I don’t normally use the home button as a shortcut for going from the last SpringBoard page to the first. That being said, I think that Zephyr has replaced a hardware function of iOS with a great software counterpart.

You can go into the Zephyr settings and choose between swiping up to both toggle the App Switcher and exiting an application, or you can choose to have only the App Switcher opened. It’s up to you how you ultimately want to use Zephyr, since the settings are extensive and intuitive. If you have never bought Zephyr before, buying version 1.1 will set you back $2.99 and you can download it from the BigBoss repo today!

DreamBoard is a new jailbreak app that allows users to easily customize their iPhone. The app, which is currently available in the Cydia Store, is a great alternative toWinterBoard – Jay Freeman’s own theme applying jailbreak application.

As you can see in the demo video below, DreamBoard allows users to easily apply an Android OS theme to their iDevice. This places a calendar and weather widget at the top of your Home screen, and app icons at the bottom. However, a variety of other themes can quickly be applied, too.

The iPhone Dev Team has just updated Redsn0w 0.9.7 untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak to fix bluetooth issues and any sand-box related issues.

The fifth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Bluetooth is now working (and any sandbox-related issues should be resolved too). Please do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Only those enrolled in the iPhone Developer program have legitimate access to that IPSW.

There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images. It really is very very painfully slow, so we probably won’t be releasing it for testing purposes unless it can be sped up somehow.

You can download RedSn0w .0.7b5 from here.

Skyfire for iPad is now available in iTunes ($4.99). The iPhone version was released back in November and it sold so well that developers had to remove it from the App Store temporarily. Developers underestimated the demand for Flash video on the iPhone and users soon overwhelmed the Skyfire servers. These issues were soon worked out, however, and Skyfire has been a huge success ever since.

Skyfire is a full-featured web browser, but its biggest claim to fame is its ability to play Flash movies. Flash is probably never going to be released for the iOS and many websites still only stream their videos using Flash. Hulu is one such website and unfortunately, they still block Skyfire. Apple continues to push HTML5 and many websites now offer videos in both formats.

Skyfire for iPad is not just a rehash of the iPhone version. It is a full update that includes many user requested features. The biggest new feature for this version is undoubtedly its social networking integration. Skyfire now supports Facebook and Twitter with dedicated buttons on the lower menu bar. Using Facebook QuickView you can keep “your Facebook page loaded in the cloud for easy, one touch access to your news feed, profile, friends, inbox, events and places.” There is even a dedicated “like” button that allows you to “like” or “unlike” any page on the internet. Now, you can keep the whole world apprised of your web browsing habits. Twitter QuickView also lets you keep up with all of your Twitter feeds, without needing to leave the browser.

This version of Skyfire for iPad seems to take all of the best features from previous versions and adds new ones that most people will find useful. With the inclusion of Facebook and Twitter support and the ability to watch many Flash based videos that were previously unavailable on the iOS, Skyfire is a worthy alternative to Apple’s mobile Safari. I wouldn’t hold your breath though, if you’re still waiting for Hulu support.
