There are 100 million iDevice users in the world. The U.S. Copyright Office Monday had a huge ruling for the jailbreak community, and in fact all iDevice users and developers - officially declaring jailbreak legal. Of course – there’s still work to be done. Monday’s ruling was a solid first step, but the road to an open mobile app market has some asphalt left to traverse.

The mobile app market is dominated by the iPhone. The Android market is estimated to do only 10% of the App Store’s 2010 income. There are a few smatterings of mobile app stores (huh? what’s a Pre?), but nothing coming close to Apple’s share and position. If you want innovative, easy to use, cool apps – you need an iPhone. It’s where the talent has set up shop.

Here’s the thing – Monday says jailbreaking is legal. But with each firmware Apple breaks the jailbreak solution, erases jailbreakers’ installed apps, and makes it more difficult to jailbreak the next firmware. New hardware checks in the iPhone 3G[S] and iPhone 4 are great examples of this continued anti-competitive behavior. Now – the jailbreak is obviously exploiting a security hole, so Apple is within their rights (and arguably within their RESPONSIBILITY) to patch these holes. The ultimate goal? No need for a jailbreak – being able to, say, install Cydia or Rock simply by dragging it into iTunes.

Comex, the mastermind behind the Spirit jailbreak, has announced via Twitter that he will not be waiting for Apple’s upcoming iOS 4.1 update – and that a suitable tool should be released within days. It will support iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) on firmware 4.0 and hopefully 4.0.1!

Many had speculated that hackers would hold off on releasing a jailbreak tool until Apple pushed out its upcoming software update, which might conflict with jailbroken iPhone 4 handsets. However, Comex seems assured that there will be some way around whatever measures Apple attempts to enforce in iOS 4.1 – and if past experience is anything to go by, he’s right.

As per the request of iH8sn0w, a HD video tutorial was created for helping user in Jailbreaking iPhone 3GS with new bootrom and having 3.1.2 SHSH blob backup.

You will need:

iPhone 3GS new bootrom

3.1.2 SHSH blob

sn0wbreeze (DOWNLOAD NOW)

iOS4 IPSW (DOWNLOAD NOW)

Notes:
- For iPod Touch 2G (MC Model) you don’t need to have 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs
- For iPod Touch 3G / iPhone 3GS you need to have 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs NOT 3.1.3
- This is tethered jailbreak, which means that you have to Reconnect your device with computer whenever it’s turned off to turn it on

Here is the video :

Warning Note: All the standard warnings apply. This is for advanced users only. Only proceed if you think you know your iPhone inside out.

I figured making a tool would take a bit too long. So, i’m going to write up this tutorial. It isn’t recommended for regular users.
**BEFORE PROCEEDING, ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR PHONE BACKED UP!**
THIS TUTORIAL ASSUMES YOU ARE ALREADY ON 3.1.2!
——-
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
* An iPhone 3G[S] — new bootrom
* 3.1.2 already installed or 3.1.2 installed via SHSH blobs. <– Broken blackra1n’d devices will work. (Especially if Spirit messed you up!).
* Payload Pwner-r3 for the 3GS. (http://www.mediafire.com/?fyozyytzze1)
* sn0wbreeze V1.7
* iBooty V1.3 (http://www.mediafire.com/?g1nynqrnz03)
* LibUSB (64-Bit users read carefully!!!)
* 3.1.2/4.0 3GS firmware downloaded.
——-
*NOTE : IF YOU HAVE THE SLEEP ISSUE, YOU WILL NEED TO RESTORE BACK TO 3.1.2 FIRST.*

STEP A : Installing LibUSB for iRecovery
Run this mini tool to detect your O/S + Arch. — Windows + Arch. Detector (http://www.mediafire.com/?imyzm2t3zam)
*********
WARNING : IF LIBUSB IS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY, YOUR USB MIGHT NO LONGER WORK!
*********
Windows XP Users download this installer — LibUSB Installer (http://www.mediafire.com/?zyy0mjthhij)
*********
Windows Vista/7 users RUNNING 32-Bit:
* Download the installer and run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP. (http://www.mediafire.com/?zyy0mjthhij)
*********
If you are a 64-Bit user, follow this tutorial — LibUSB 64-Bit Tut(http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148985)
*********
Once LibUSB is installed iRecovery should be able to function now.
——-
STEP B : Pwning iBEC + iBoot
I : Download this easy tool here — Payload Pwner-r3 for 3GS (http://www.mediafire.com/?fyozyytzze1) // It will help you create the payload + iBEC.

**SAVE THE PAYLOAD + iBEC WHERE iBooty is.**
——-
STEP C : Making a Custom IPSW
I : Download sn0wbreeze V1.7 from here — sn0wbreeze V1.7
II : USE EXPERT MODE!
III : In General, Checkmark “Disable NOR Flash” <– THIS IS ESSENTIAL!!!!
IV : Build it. It will be on your Desktop.

**CUSTOM BOOT LOGOS THAT ARE MADE IN sn0wbreeze WILL NOT WORK ON NEW BOOTROMS!**
*Mac Users : PwnageTool does not have this option. I don’t think it will ever be in there. Use a Windows Virtual Machine or friends PC to create your firmware.*
——-
STEP D: iBooty Prep.
Most of you know of the utility “iBooty” that I made for Aki_nG.
It will work as long as you place all of the correct files there.
I : Download iBooty GUI here — iBooty for 3GS (http://www.mediafire.com/?g1nynqrnz03) and Extract it.
II : Extract your Custom IPSW created by sn0wbreeze with 7-Zip or another un-archiver.
III : Grab the kernelcache and bring it into the same folder as ibooty.
Also grab the iBEC from the folder “Firmware\dfu\iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu”
Aswell as DeviceTree from the folder “Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n88ap.production\DeviceTree.n88ap”
IV :
* Rename your Kernel 4.0-Custom to “kernel.40″
* Rename your iBEC 4.0-Custom to “ibec.40″
* Rename your DeviceTree 4.0-Custom to “devtree.40″
======
Your folder should look like this :
- iboot.payload <– Created with Payload Pwner.
- devtree.40 <– Grabbed from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- ibec.40 <– Grabbed from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- irecovery.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- readline5.dll <– Comes with iBooty.
- iBooty.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- kernel.40 <– Grab from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- sn0w.img3 <– Comes with iBooty.
- wait.img3 <– Comes with iBooty.
======
——-
STEP E: Restoring to 4.0 + Booting
——-
*MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON 3.1.2 WHEN DOING THIS*
I : Run iBooty and Select “Prepare Device for Custom Firmware”. Run the Process and if you see the image, you can proceed!
II : Now open iTunes and restore to the custom ipsw.
***WHEN DONE, YOUR DEVICE WILL GO INTO RECOVERY MODE. IT WONT BOOT.***
——-
STEP F : Booting
I : Just Re-Run iBooty and select “Boot It”. If all goes well it will boot!

Bad News : Spirit for iPhone 4 will be released only after iOS 4.0.1 arrives which may be delayed. (They have reasons for doing so.
Initially iPhone 4 baseband could not be unlocked, due to a few hardware changed in the new phone, and as a result a new unlock was required.

It means the “next step” demoed in http://is.gd/doLnzhas been reached, so now there’s just 1 final step

Full i4 bars with custom “steve” background task spitting out “One more thing” http://is.gd/doJXt – all pieces in place:)

Next step is to keep the task backgrounded like we did for 3G/3GShttp://is.gd/dh7Jh. Backgrounded task is the unlock.

Steady iPhone4 unlock progress with @planetbeing…custom “pp” command to dump thread priorities:http://is.gd/dirUZ

Oh! I forgot to mention about an untethered jailbreak that comex will be releasing soon. Yep! Thats right, we can expect Spirit for jaibreaking iOS4 and iPhone 4 and it will be an untethered jailbreak.

Finally, We can jailbreak iPhone 3GS with new bootrom (MC Model) using sn0wbreeze, created by iH8sn0w. Before we begin, you must know that, we need SHSH on saurik’s server of iPhone 3.1.2 (not 3.1.3).

You should first Downgrade your device if you are on iOS 4.

Note: This guide is tethered Jailbreak which means that whenever you turn off your iPhone, you have to re-connect it to your computer to get it on again.

Follow the guide as posted in iH8sn0w’s forum:

Pwning 4.0 on New Bootrom 3G[S] w/3.1.2 SHSH Blobs
I wrote this all on the road with my iPad, so sorry if there is any major Grammar errors. If anyone points out any errors, I’ll fix it up. Anyways…
——
I figured making a tool would take a bit too long. So, i’m going to write up this tutorial. It isn’t recommended for regular users.
**BEFORE PROCEEDING, ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR PHONE BACKED UP!**
——
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
* An iPhone 3G[S] — new bootrom
* 3.1.2 SHSH blobs.
* difrnt’s iBSS grabber
* Payload Pwner for the 3GS.
* sn0wbreeze V1.6.2
* iBooty
* LibUSB (64-Bit users read carefully!!!)
* 3.1.2/4.0 3GS firmware downloaded. [Download iPhone 3.1.2 / Download iOS 4.0]
——
STEP A : Grabbing your 3.1.2 iBSS file.
Pointing your hosts :
I : If you have your shsh blobs saved on Cydia/Saurik’s server then follow this tutorial. —http://saurik.com/id/12
II : If you have it saved with TinyUmbrella, then download the GUI here. —http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/
——
Restoring to grab the iBSS file.
I : Place your device in DFU.
II : Start up the iBSS/iBEC grabber.
III : Put the save folder on a new folder on your desktop.
IV : Hit “Start Monitoring”.
V : Now go back to iTunes and do SHIFT + Restore. Then browse for your 3.1.2 IPSW. You will need to restore
to 3.1.2 in order to pwn 4.0.
——-
Saving your iBSS
I : After Restoring, Go to the folder that you have specified to save your iBSS file.
II : You will see folders like (Per**.tmp). Go into one of them, and you’ll see a folder called “Firmware”. Go there. Then go to the folder “dfu”.
III : Copy the iBSS file to a safe place, then you can remove the folder created by the iBSS Grabber.
——
STEP B : Creating custom 4.0 firmware.
I : Download sn0wbreeze from http://ih8sn0w.com and create your custom 4.0 ipsw. [How to Guide]
*Ignore the warnings after browsing for the ipsw.*
——
STEP C : Installing LibUSB for iRecovery
Run this mini tool to detect your O/S + Arch. — Windows + Arch. Detector
*********
WARNING : IF LIBUSB IS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY, YOUR USB MIGHT NO LONGER WORK!
*********
Windows XP Users download this installer — LibUSB Installer
*********
Windows Vista/7 users RUNNING 32-Bit:
* Download the installer and run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
*********
If you are a 64-Bit user, follow this tutorial
*********
Once LibUSB is installed iRecovery should be able to function now.
——-
STEP D : Pwning iBSS + iBoot
I : Download this easy tool here — Payload Pwner for 3GS // It will help you create the payloads.
**SAVE THE PAYLOADS WHERE iBooty is.**
——-
STEP E: iBooty Prep.
Most of you know of the utility “iBooty” that I made for Aki_nG.
It will work as long as you place all of the correct files there.
I : Download iBooty GUI here — iBooty for 3GS and Extract it.
IV :
* Rename your iBSS 3.1.2 signed to “ibss312.dfu”
* Rename your Kernel 4.0-Custom to “kernel.40″
* Rename your iBEC 4.0-Custom to “ibec40.dfu”
======
Your folder should look like this :
- iboot.payload <– Created with Payload Pwner.
- exploitibss312 <– Created with Payload Pwner.
- ibec40.dfu <– Grabbed from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- irecovery.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- readline5.dll <– Comes with iBooty.
- iBooty.exe <– Comes with iBooty.
- ibss312.dfu <– THIS NEEDS TO BE YOUR iBSS from the restore!
- kernel.40 <– Grab from Custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze.
- sn0w.img3 <– Comes with iBooty.
======
——-
STEP F: Restoring to 4.0 + Booting
——-
*MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON 3.1.2 WHEN DOING THIS*
I : Run iBooty and Select “Prepare Device for Custom Firmware”. Run the Process and if you see a snow flake, you can proceed!
II : Now open iTunes and restore to the custom ipsw.
***WHEN DONE, YOUR DEVICE WILL HAVE A BLACK SCREEN AND NOT BOOT! ITS IN A DFU LOOP [THIS IS NORMAL!]***
——-
STEP G : Booting
I : Just Re-Run iBooty and select “Boot It”. If all goes well it will boot!
——-
Enjoy!

iOS 4 was released yesterday and it was a big Release, Also Redsn0w 0.9.5 has already Jailbroken iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, But What about iPhone 3GS users? Follow the Step by Step Guide below to Jailbreak iOS 4 final version on iPhone 3GS..

UPDATE #2: PwnageTool 4.01 released (fixes iBooks issues)

Each supported device has few different scenarios that users need to consider when performing the upgrades, you need to check below and perform the upgrade in the particular way that matches your current device state.

NB: With PwnageTool 4.0 PwnageTool 4.01 certain devices are not supported this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software. We’re working on ways to get past these restrictions.

iPhone 2G - not supported

iPod Touch – not supported

iPod Touch 3G – not supported

PwnageTool 4.0 PwnageTool 4.01 only recognizes the official IPSWs that came out yesterday. If you had developer access to the “4.0 GM” IPSWs, do not try to use those.

iPhone 3GS

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.

If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0 PwnageTool 4.01

iPhone 3G

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.01 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.

If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.01 ipsw using DFU mode.

If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.

As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.

IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.

iPod touch 2G

If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.

As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.

Baseband Unlock

As you probably know by now, ultrasn0w has been updated to cover all basebands from 04.26.08 onward. Many thanks to @sherif_hashim for finding the crashing command that the new ultrasn0w 0.93 uses! He worked hard at finding the crash, and he kept it confidential until the right time to use it.

Major props to @oranav (who found the earlier +xlog crash). He also had this crashing command!

iPhone 3G and 3GS baseband unlockers (those who rely on ultrasn0w to make phone calls) should always be very wary to update their firmware, however our Ultrasn0w application will unlock all recent (including the current) 3GS and 3G baseband firmware versions. Once you are jailbroken using PwnageTool 4.01, install ultrasn0w from Cydia and you’ll be unlocked.

Remember! This baseband unlock situation is rare, should you upgrade your iPhone blindly at the next iOS release please don’t expect an unlock – but for now you are OK (whatever state your baseband is in).

UPDATE #1: The iPhone Dev Team has just released PwangeTool 4.0 To Jailbreak iOS 4 for iPhone 3GS but with Old BootRoom, This Jailbreak don’t support iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.

iPhone Dev team’s blog post:

NB: With PwnageTool 4.0 certain devices are not supported this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software.

* iPhone 2G – not supported
* iPod Touch – not supported
* iPod Touch 3G – not supported

iPhone 3G

* If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.
* If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.0 ipsw using DFU mode.
* If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.

IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.

iPhone 3GS

Summary: PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

* If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with recovery mode.
* If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0

iPod touch 2G

* If you have an iPod touch 2G that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.

Baseband Unlock

* iPhone 3G and 3GS baseband unlockers (those who rely on ultrasn0w to make phone calls) should always be very wary to update their firmware, however our Ultrasn0w application will unlock all recent (including the current) 3GS and 3G baseband firmware versions, once you are jailbroken using PwnageTool 4.0, install ultrasn0w from Cydia and you’ll be unlocked.
* Remember! This baseband unlock situation is rare, should you upgrade your iPhone blindly at the next iOS release please don’t expect an unlock – but for now you are OK (whatever state your baseband is in).

Update #2: redsn0w beta has been updated to clear many bugs that existed in the beta 4 version.

Update #1: redsn0w beta has been updated to hacktivate iOS 4.0 for iPhone3G (in addition to jailbreaking the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G). The download links for redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 are:

For now, the redsn0w beta release supports only the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at today’s 4.0. It’s still a beta, so you’ll need to let Cydia reorganize, reload, and update after using redsn0w.

Reminder: iPhone3GS & iPod3G owners (especially if you used Spirit for your first JB) should stay away from iOS4 for now !!!

We will soon be able to jailbreak our iOS 4 devices using the latest version of redsn0w (0.9.5), it will enable all the new features of the iOS4. It will :

Enable Baground Wallpaper

Enable Battery percentage

Enable Native Multi tasking

Install Cydia

And allows Custom Boot and recovery logo.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4

Step 1: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed (iTunes 9.2).

Step 2: Download iOS 4 for iPhone 3G to your desktop.

Step 3: Update your iPhone to iOS 4 via iTunes.

Step 4: Download RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-3 for Windows or Mac and launch it.

Step 5: Point RedSn0w to the iOS 4 you downloaded in step 2.

Step 6: Select “Install Cydia”.

Step 7: Follow the onscreen instructions.

Step 8: Let RedSn0w do the hard work for you. Once jailbroken, your iPhone will reboot.

That’s it!

Now as mentioned above, this is just a beta release of RedSn0w, which means you might have a few issues. One of the most common issues is that the Cydia icon appears all white. In order to fix this, simply add the following repo to Cydia and reboot your iPhone:http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7.

If needed, you may now unlock your iPhone 3G running iOS 4 by following these simple instructions.
