MuscleNerd has confirmed that Cydia works fine on jailbroken iPod touch 4G. iPhone Dev Team, today has posted on his Twitter account some screenshots and pictures of iOS 5 beta 1 already jailbroken. He confirmed that the jailbreak will work on iOS 5 final version but tethered jailbreak till now which means you’ll have to connect your iOS device to your computer everytime you reboot it. The exploit used in this jailbreak is Geohot’s Limera1n exploit which was released few months ago. has confirmed yesterday in a tweet that iOS 5′s new feature over-the-air updates will not affect on iOS 5 jailbreak (i.e. jailbreakers will be safe to jailbreak iOS 5).
The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that there will be no unlock released until after iOS 4.2.5 or 4.3 is released. We could have guessed this eariler, because comex said that he won’t release his jailbreak until iOS 4.3. Without a solid jail broken platform, ultrasn0w can’t function. Regarding iPhone 3G, We have confirmed that iOS 4.3 will not support iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G, so 4.2.1 will be the last firmware for both the devices. So, it’s effectively unlocked for life via the 06.15 ultrasn0w unlock. Even though that unlock is complicated, the Dev doesn’t seem to have any future development plans for an iPhone 3G unlock. The iPhone Dev Team has just updated Redsn0w 0.9.7 untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak to fix bluetooth issues and any sand-box related issues.
The fifth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Bluetooth is now working (and any sandbox-related issues should be resolved too). Please do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Only those enrolled in the iPhone Developer program have legitimate access to that IPSW.
There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images. It really is very very painfully slow, so we probably won’t be releasing it for testing purposes unless it can be sped up somehow.
You can download RedSn0w .0.7b5 from here. You can find instructions on how to use this version of RedSn0w to untether here.
UPDATE 1 : The iPhone Dev-Team has updated RedSn0w to fix issues with Skype. You can download RedSn0w .0.7b6 from here. You can find instructions on how to use this version of RedSn0w to untether here.
iPhone Dev team just released an update to RedSn0w .9.7b4 and it removes the usbmuxd requirement to untether your jailbreak. Unfortunately the update is for Mac version, Windows users will have to wait a bit longer. This will also require 4.2beta3 SHSH blobs.
iPhone Dev team: The fourth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Starting with this version, redsn0w no longer requires you to install and run a separate program for the usbmux (this was a non-trivial procedure for many). It’s okay to keep that program running if you normally use it for ssh anyway. We also think we’ve fixed a race condition in the GUI that was causing redsn0w to crash during the “Preparing JB Monte Files” step. Nothing at all has changed on the iPhone side (where the main issues are still just Bluetooth and Skype).

Good news! MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has given further confirmation that a untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 is indeed in works, and that it will be ready for prime-time use somewhere around Christmas. This untethered solution will almost certainly be applicable to all current iOS 4.2.1 devices, including the new A4-based ones which includes iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2G and iPod touch 4G.
